Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara believes teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is unlikely to feature immediately in India’s T20I series against England, despite growing excitement around the 15-year-old’s first international appearance.

Speaking ahead of the series, Pujara said India’s team management is expected to continue with its established top order rather than make early changes following the recent T20I series against Ireland. While acknowledging Sooryavanshi’s remarkable rise, he stressed that managing expectations will be crucial for the young batter as he begins his international journey.

“There is a lot of hype around him, and as a young player, he shouldn’t be focusing on what is being said about him,” Pujara said on Star Sports. “It is important to keep the outside noise away from him, and the best way to do that is to focus on the game. I don’t think he will get an opportunity straight up.”

Pujara believes India’s preferred opening combination of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan is unlikely to be changed during the early stages of the England series, making an immediate debut for Sooryavanshi less probable.

“The Indian team would not want to change their top three, and I don’t think Vaibhav will get his opportunity in the first two or three games,” Pujara explained. “Once the Indian team starts doing well, whenever there is an opportunity through rotation, that’s when Vaibhav will come into the playing XI. What he has done in the IPL, it won’t be easy to replicate the same thing in English conditions.”

Sooryavanshi was included in India’s T20I squad for the Ireland and England tours after a sensational IPL 2026 campaign that established him as one of the country’s brightest young batting talents. However, he is still awaiting his international debut.
